(CANADA.) Scrapbook of Canadian official J.U. Gregory. 28 leaves containing numerous clippings, letters, and ephemera. 4to, original 1/2 morocco, hinges cracked, binding worn; leaves chipped and loose; contents with some soiling from adhesive. Quebec, 1878-1918

Scrapbook of John Uriah Gregory (1830-1913), Agent for the Marine and Fisheries Department of the government of Quebec. Most of the album dates to 1903-07, with a handful of earlier and later letters. In 1903 Gregory was awarded the Imperial Service Order by King Edward VII, an award given for at least twenty-five years of government service. Many of the letters and notes in the beginning of the album are congratulatory. Other items here relate to Gregory's membership in the Quebec Yacht Club, where he served as the Honorary Commodore. He was likewise a member of the Quebec Gun Club, and seems to have been active in sporting circles in both Canada and America; newspaper clippings are included from a hunting and fishing trip to Florida in 1893. Perhaps most interesting are 10 charmingly illustrated letters from friend Romeo Stephens of Chambly, Quebec, 1881-1890. Another highlight is a letter from Judge Charles A. Pollock in North Dakota mentioning Gregory's support for Theodore Roosevelt as president of the United States.
