R. Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810) was one of the most dynamic and energetic figures within the early Chassidic movement. Emphasizing the need for simplicity and innocence in religious behavior and the desire to maintain a sense of Joy, his brand of Chassidism has flourished for over two centuries without a leading rabbi at the helm (Admo”r). R. Tzadok Hakohen of Lublin, himself a later Chassidic master, often referred to R. Nachman as “the genius of Chassidism.” The present work is the most important collection of his teachings, edited by his student R. Nathan of Nemirov.
