Qing dynasty; Kangxi period (1662-1722AD); This fantastic set of two blue and white small plates with scalloped rims is embellished with peonies, chrysanthemums and birds resting on leafy branches. In Chinese tradition peonies are considered a flower of ‘wealth and honour’, and was traditionally a token of love and exchanged as a farewell gift; Chrysanthemums are associated with longevity and wealth, because the name sounds similar to the word ? jiu, meaning ‘long enduring’.
