Condition Report:
Overall the condition of the stone is good with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are losses to the relief, in particular to the background at the top on the right side, to the right corner at the front of the relief, below Saint Veronica's feet. There is a loss to the top of St Veronica's veil. There is a small loss to the proper left foot of the person holding the cross on the left side of the relief, and another small loss to the proper left hand of the person at the top of the relief on the right side. The forearm of the same figure appears to have been reattached, and the attribute held in his proper right arm is lost. There are a few reattachments, including to the hand holding an attribute of the figure in the top left corner, which has been reattached in two places and some glue residue is visible. The surface of the relief is slightly worn throughout, which has led to some loss of surface detail, in particular to the faces and the headdresses. There is a small chip to the turban of Saint Veronica. There are further nicks and scratches to the surface in areas.

Provenance:
Edouard Leonardi, Paris, sold May 1938;

Wessbecher Collection;

thence by descent;

Sotheby's London, 8 July 2005, lot 19
