Also marked are the areas inhabited by native American tribes, and the routes proposed for trans-continental railroads, including routes "explored for the Pacific Railroad" by Captain Gunnison and Lieutenant Beshwith, "Proposed Pacific Railroad", and "Governor Stevens Route and Line of the Proposed Pacific Railroad".
