Tull attested for the Hampshire Regiment, and served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 13 March 1915. He was awarded his Territorial Force Efficiency Medal per Army Order 64 of 1917, and the Additional Award Bar to it per Army Order 72 of February 1925, in the rank of Warrant Officer Class II.
