With this large, fierce and powerful motif of Skagen fishermen, struggling against the storm to save lives, Carl Locher attracted great attention at Charlottenborg in 1878. The motif became one of his most famous and sought after, and he returned to it again and again. This painting is one of his largest and most compelling repetitions.
