Carpet, Rug, Farahan extra fine - Rug - 190 cm - 137 cm - Wool on Cotton - Second half 19th century
Antique Persian Farahan rug. The highest splendour of the production of the period was achieved in the 1700s under Shah Nadir, who settled highly skilled masters in Farahan. For this exact reason, the Herati pattern is the most widespread of the local masterpieces, because it is still preferable to design them by enlarging their ornamentation on a blue field without a medallion. The decorative gamut also covers other typologies: there are open space examples strewn with elegant paisley elements, or else medallion carpets. Extra fine and very soft. The rug is almost in good condition, but the wool pile's thickness varies, see photos. Materials: fine wool and cotton Age: circa 1880–1890 Dimensions: 190 × 137 cm Origin: Persia In excellent condition. With certificate and guarantee. From a private collection.
