Central/Northern Europe, Celtic culture, ca. 200 BCE to 500 CE. A forged-iron sword with a ring-shaped pommel, a narrow handle, and a dramatically bent blade. Swords of this type were perhaps not used for battle but as utilitarian tools for farming, butchery, pelt-making, and shaping of wood or mud bricks. The blade was perhaps ceremonially bent before it was buried with its owner and a memento of bravery and strength. Size: 9.75" L x 1.9" W (24.8 cm x 4.8 cm)
