Colorful costume book of feminine dress in Normandy in the early 19thcentury.Second edition. Village and rural scenes serving as backgrounds are also of great pictorial interest. The plates are signed by Gatine after original art by Lanté, with La Mésangere providing the text for the first edition (not included in this second edition). Lanté and Gatine collaborated on several other French costume books, including Costumes parisiens (1824) and Costumes des femmes de Hambourg, du Tyrol, de la Hollande (1827), and an untitled work on the costume of the middle and upper classes (1828; Colas 1775).
