Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris alias Le Corbusier Designer - Autograph; Article on Domus about Villa Vismara from Capri with corrections and Original Drawing - 1937

[ translate ]

Very rare document signed by Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris, also known as Le Corbusier. The document is the first draft of the article "Le vrai, seul support de l'architecture", written for his friend Vismara, about the beautiful villa he designed in Capri, in Punta Tragara. The architect, in this article translated and published in Domus in 1937, expresses his own personal vision of architecture, writing those indelible words that will always accompany the image of Villa Vismara: ". . . un’emanazione della roccia, una filiazione dell’isola, un fenomeno vegetale, quasi un lichene architettonico cresciuto sul fianco di Capri". Le Corbusier adds numerous corrections and footnotes to the first draft of the article, and places a double signature, erasing the first. The word "Domus" written in pencil at the bottom of the last page confirms that it is the article that Le Corbusier sent to the famous magazine for the historic publication. The document is embellished by two sketches by Le Corbusier, who gives indications about the layout of the article in the magazine, also tracing the stylized profiles of the rock on which Villa Vismara stands. Date: 17/06/1937Pages: 8Handwritten pages: 8Autograph with certificate of authenticity (COA-R) , registered in our archives.
