Charles Russell & Frederic Remington Folios

Lot of artist folios:

a) Artist's Proofs by C. M. Russell. Listed in Karl Yost and Frederic G. Renner’s "A Bibliography of the Published Works of Charles M. Russell," 1971, lists this on page 139 as: "13. Artist's Proofs [rules] [INDIAN HEAD #5] by C. M. Russell [rules]. Black poster paper album, size 11 1/4" x 14 1/8" with cover stamped in gold, leather thong tie. N.p.,n.d. (probably Ridgley, Great Falls, ca. 1909). Contains 12 color plates (not proofs), size 9" x 11" average, but not always the same plates." Excellent condition, small card glued inside front cover with gift message. Scarce.

b) Frederic Remington's 'Buckskins': Portraits of the Old West. The Original Folio of Eight Color Prints Superbly Reproduced. First edition (1956 / Penn Prints). 8 loose color prints in excellent condition measuring 16 1/4" X 12 1/4" in the original printed paper portfolio. Covers have some corner and edge wear.

c) Frederic Remington, "Eight New Remington Paintings" P.F. Collier & Son, 1909. Folio. 8 full color reproduction plates. Loose in portfolio, as issued. Decorative cloth-covered paper boards. The prints are 10 1/8" x 14 7/8" the portfolio is 17" x 11 7/8". Worn cover, prints overall very good, slight foxing on some, storage wear to the edges on some.

d) "Drawings by Frederic Remington", R. H. Russell, 1897. First Edition. Original pictorial boards, tan cloth spine, some chipping to edges, front hinge cracked, loose binding, wear to spine ends, very good overall. Sixty-one full page plates in black and white, with printed captions, and an introduction by Owen Wister. Listed: Dykes, Remington 326; Howes R205.

e) "Done in the Open: Drawings by Frederic Remington". 1903 Edition, P. F. Collier & Son Publishers, New York. Seventy-seven drawings, portrait vignettes, full-page, and double-page illustrations, accompanied by verses by the author of the prototype Western novel, "The Virginian", Owen Wister. Included is a double page spread in color, "Caught in the Circle". Cover edges chipped and worn and dirty. Inside pages complete and very good to fine. Listed: Dykes, Remington 333; Howes R204.

f) Collier's / The National Weekly, March 18 1905 "Remington Number" Cover and 4 inside pages with Remington illustrations. 2 page color center fold "Evening on a Canadian Lake" Story of Remington by Owen Wister. Frederic Remington - Sculptor by James Barnes. Browning, dirt on the cover, some binding damage due to loose leaf holes, 3 ads clipped not affecting Remington content. 15" x 10 3/4".
