Cherry and Birch Inlaid Tall Case Clock
Cherry and Birch Inlaid Tall Case Clock, Levi Hutchins, Concord, New Hampshire, c. 1800, the shaped fret joining reeded plinths and brass finials above a tombstone-shaped glazed door opening to a white-painted iron dial lettered "Levi Hutchins/Concord," with polychrome rayed spandrels and a bird in the arch, above a waist with molded crossbanded and string-inlaid door flanked by quarter-columns and patterned inlay, above a similarly inlaid base, ht. 91 1/2 in.
Provenance: Deaccessioned from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Proceeds to benefit the museum's acquisition fund.
Note: Label affixed to interior of backboard indicates that the clock was loaned in 1917 by the French family of Boston.
Another chalk inscription seems to indicate that the original price of this clock was $15.
