China: Republic 1926 Silver 'Dragon and Phoenix' 10 Cents PCGS XF40, LM-83
The Republican 10 Cents of Year 15 (1926) is one of the most distinctive minor silver issues of early twentieth-century China, struck during a period of political transition as the young Republic sought to establish a new national identity. The design departs from the more familiar dragon motifs of the late Qing, instead featuring an elaborate heraldic composition of a dragon and phoenix supporting a central shield, symbolising strength, unity, and national sovereignty. Its artistic style, blending traditional Chinese symbolism with Western heraldic influences, makes it one of the most visually striking issues of the Republican series.
Certified PCGS XF40, this example retains strong detail on the obverse while the wreath reverse displays definition and complete legends. Traces of original mint lustre survive within the protected areas, complemented by light silver-grey toning that enhances the coin's originality and eye appeal.
