Chinese Embroidery of the Legend "100 Children"

An original Chinese hand-embroidered panel on silk, featuring an interpretation of the popular Chinese legend 100 Children. The legend is based on the story of King Wen of Zhou (1152 – 1056 BC), who, according to the legend, had 99 sons and adopted one additional son to have a total of 100. This image depicts 99 children playing in a garden with a variety of plants and animals surrounding them. A singled red Chinese character is embroidered in red to the upper center margin. The piece is embroidered onto a teal silk backing with a foliage blue, gray, white, and bronze tone brocade border. It is mounted to a black silken border and is presented behind non-glare glass in a wooden frame carved to look like bamboo with black and gold tone finishes and a hanging wire attached to the verso.
