LOT 0077

Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Head

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $150**

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. An inviting mold-formed pottery head with slit-form eyes, a pronounced nose, and thin lips that accent the visage with a slight warm smile. The original patina of this pottery head penetrates through the earthen surface, giving the viewer glimpses of orange, red, and brown hues scattered throughout. Tinges of dark brown paint used on the top of the head inform a faint parting of the hair leading into a ponytail, which may have been accented by a headdress due to evidence of brilliant red paint in the surrounding area. Both ears slightly protrude from each side of head, giving the head a multi-dimensional silhouette. An enchanting figural fragment of the Han Dynasty. Size: 3" L x 3.5" W x 4.0" H (7.6 cm x 8.9 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: ex Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
