Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Horse Head & Body

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. Fine pottery horse in gray clay with muscular body and regal slightly downturned head. Hollow molded with slots where wooden legs and a horsehair tail would have been attached with small holes for the insertion of wooden pins to hold each leg in place. This fine example was certainly designed for the tomb which would have included attendants, animals, and possibly warriors or protection spirits. Size: 11.5" L x 9" H (29.2 cm x 22.9 cm)
