Chinese Inlaid Lacquer Fenghuang Phoenix Table

A large and well made low, four footed vintage Chinese export table. Black lacquer and mother of pearl inlay depicting flora and geometric designs, with numerous fenghuang bird forms, including two central opposing birds on the tabletop surface. In Chinese mythology, the fenghuang reigns over other birds. It is also called the "August Rooster" since it sometimes takes the place of the Rooster in the Chinese zodiac. In Western parlance, it is commonly called the Chinese Phoenix. Nice patina throughout. Good to fair condition with age related wear and minor loss throughout, including to inside of one leg.
