Chinese Jade Shou on Turquoise Boulder, 18th Century

A Chinese turquoise boulder with jade carvings of Shou, Liu Hai, and a boy with a flag. Shou holds a ruyi wand and a peach. Liu Hai holds a string of coins and his three-legged frog sits on his head. The boulder sits upon a carved wooden stand with five legs.

Dimensions: together with jade and stand measures 10 1/2 inches tall X 7 1/4 inches wide; 26.67 cm tall X 18.08 cm wide. All measurements are approximate.

Condition: Pin from the jade carving of a boy has deteriorated. One leg of the stand has been repaired. The boulder has been overpainted on its sides. There are minor chips on the jades and natural variations to the stones.

Provenance: Property of a distinguished Pennsylvania collector. Previously sold at Christie's New York on 15 March 2015, as Lot 3070. Similar examples of jade carvings of Shou alone are housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City under accession number 02.18.458 and in the Palace Museum in Beijing . A similar example of a jade carving of Shou alone was sold at Sotheby's Paris on June 9, 2010, as lot 128.
