Chinese Song Dynasty Ceramic Plate

East Asia, China, Song Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1270 CE. A large plate with a pale green celadon glaze and undulating cloud-shaped designs. The plate has a series of scalloped edges along the peripheries, a shallow interior cavity, and a squat footed base. The distinctive color of the glaze is a result of using pine wood as fuel in the kilns, thus creating a reductive atmosphere. Size: 8.25" Diameter (21 cm).

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s to 1990s
