Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Equestrian
Chinese, Tang Dynasty. The rider seated erect with an upraised arm , the lower arm position for holding a reign. The horse standing four square on a rectangular plinth with head turned to the left, ears alert and mane closely cropped. The horse's body painted rust brown with dappled black spots. The rider painted brown and black and the saddle and blanket black with white details. Approx: h. 14" w. 13" d. 4.25". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Morton & Kathleen Sachs of Louisville, Kentucky, purchased from TK Asian Antiquities (Williamsburg, VA) in 2000 or 2001 for $1,980.
