Chinese Warring States Greyware Jar Textured Body

East Asia, China, Warring States Period, ca. 475 to 221 BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery jar with a concave base, a wide, apple-shaped body, a rounded shoulder with a brushed pattern, a deep interior cavity, and a slightly flared rim. The majority of the body is impressed with a dense lattice-work pattern which creates a rough texture. This vessel demonstrates the skill of Chinese artists from an early period. Size: 7.75" W x 4.875" H (19.7 cm x 12.4 cm).

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, received as a gift from Bob Ritterbush, California, USA, prior to 2000

Condition Report: Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small chips and nicks to rim, body, and base, with some fading to impressed body texture, and light roughness across most surfaces. Nice earthen deposits throughout. Traces of red pigmentation in scattered areas.
