Title: Chinese export over glaze enamel famille rose porcelain plate 18th century
Size: 12 x 12 x 12

Very expertly painted and expertly potted 18th century porcelain plate. The minute details are so colorful, so detailed, and so delicate. Thinly potted Chinese porcelain plate with sloping cavetto, central medallion, slight cut unglazed foot ring, and glazed base. The design in the central medallion is of peonies, peacock feathers in a vase, a banana leaf fan, flowers, and a ruyi fungus. There is a lappet and lozenge panel border with key fret and floral design. The plate has been glazed with a soft, thick, bluish tinged, high fired glaze. The designs are in rose, greens, blues, brown, yellow, and red enamels with black used to outline and accent. You can see the potter’s wheel marks under the base glaze. There are no marks or labels. MEASUREMENTS 8 15/16” (22.7 cm) diameter x 1 1/8” (2.9 cm) tall. Weighs 13.8 oz (390 g) CONDITION There are rim edge frits and two under edge chips. One chip has an underside hairline crack leading off it. The hairline must be on the back of the plate because the plate still rings like a bell and I can’t feel it on the plate front. There are small wear scratches and abrasions on the front of the plate. The plate still shows bright and shiny. It is in great shape for being so old. A beautiful, romantic, colorful plate from a time in Chinese history when there was such expert, experienced artisans making such great works of art in porcelain. A true work of art.
