Chupicuaro Polychrome Jar Geometric Motif

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel of a round-bottomed form with a carinated midsection, a corseted neck, and a flared rim. Presented in hues of red and purple atop a cream ground, the vessel bears dense linear patterns across its exterior surfaces that surround larger, step-filled diamond motifs, and the rim interior features a series of pyramidal forms. Size: 8.55" Diameter x 7.2" H (21.7 cm x 18.3 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition Report: Repaired from multiple pieces, with small losses to one area of body, and chipping with light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and light fading to pigments. Nice preservation to most decorative motifs.
