Condition Report:
The canvas is lined, the pint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. There is a slight degree of wear visible in the sitter’s face. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals fine lines of retouching to the craquelure scattered in the upper half of the background and in parts of the red curtain centre right. There are also pinprick retouchings around the sitter’s head, in his face and in his cravat. The painting is in overall fairly good condition.
