Circle of George Morland, British 1763-1804- Fishermen pulling a boat ashore; pencil, watercolour and bodycolour on paper, 42.5 x 57.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work relates to several compositions of the same subject, in oils, by George Morland. See, for example, 'Seashore: Fishermen Hauling in a Boat', held at the V&A Museum, London [no.1404-1869]. This work, by an unidentified artist, is presumably a copy of an unknown work by Morland, or an interpretation of one of his scenes of the subject. It also betrays the influence, in subject and handling, of several watercolours by Francis Wheatley RA (1747-1801).
