Circle of John Crome, British 1768-1821- A village track with horse and cart, figures, and dogs; oil on panel, bears old label with inscription 'By J. Ruysdael, 1660' on the reverse, 31.7 x 41.5 cm. ( VAT charged on hammer price) Provenance: With David A. Cross Fine Art, London. Note: This panel is of particular interest as it demonstrates the style of landscape painting most obviously connected to the Norwich School, and in particular to John Crome. The influence of the Dutch on East Anglia, and on Norwich in particular, is discussed in detail in Andrew Moore's book Dutch and Flemish Painting in Norfolk, Norfolk Museums Service, 1988. According to Dawson Turner, John Crome's last words were 'Oh Hobbema, my dear Hobbema, how I have loved you!'.
