Civil War CDVs of Lovell General Hospital and Medical Staff

Lot of 4 CDVs, of which 2 show the grounds of Lovell General Hospital, a US Army hospital in Portsmouth, RI, active between 1862-1865. Each with verso imprint of "Lovell General Hospital, USA / Portsmouth Grove, RI / Address 'J.A. Williams, Post Office / Box 507, Newport, RI.'" Each outdoor view features a number of buildings, including the "Commissary" as noted over the door in one image, which also served as the post office. Kinsley's Express is to the left of the Commissary, and the back of the Hospital Head Quarters can be seen at far left. A soldier sitting against a tree, holding a small dog, and another standing with a wheelbarrow, are in the foreground. The second view provides a different look at the hospital grounds, showing the Head Quarters, the Optician, Kinsley's Express, Commissary, and post Office Buildings.

Accompanied by 2 studio portraits, including a medical cadet identified/possibly signed on verso as "G.C. Howard," with imprint of D.O. Furnald, Manchester, NH; and standing view of Surgeon William F. Cornick, pencil identified on verso, with imprint of Manchester Bros., Providence, RI. Cornick enlisted as an assistant surgeon in October 1860 and was commissioned into the US Army Medical Staff. He resigned in October 1865.
Condition Report: Slight horizontal crease in top portion of CDV showing surgeon. Light, even toning. Some light spotting. Otherwise very good to near excellent condition. Some light corner/edge wear to mounts.
