Claude Monet 1800's Etching Customs House of Purville

Claude Monet (1840 - 1926). Cabane de Douanier a Pourville (Customs House of Pourville). Hand Pulled Copper plate etching and drypoint, printed in Bistre ink, on cream laid paper after the original by Auguste Marie Lauzet (1865 - 1898). Year: 1892. Edition: Limited to only 50 examples. Dimensions: Plate size 5 x 6 inches. Framed dimensions: Approximately 15 x 16 inches. Framing: This piece has been professionally matted and framed using all new materials. About the customs house "Originally, it was a safe guard designed by Sebastien Le Prestre de Vauban (1633-1707), military architect of Louis XIV, who was in charge of fortifying the French coast, " said Ludwig Nerhot. These guard posts made it possible at the time to monitor the coastline and watch for enemy ships. These constructions later became customs guard posts to guard the smugglers' coast, as there was a lot of smuggling between the Channel Islands and Normandy."
