Tumbridgeware being characterized as a form of decoratively inlaid woodwork, typically in the form of boxes, that is characteristic of Tonbridge and the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent in the 18th and 19th centuries. This one dates from circa 1860, and has good inlay, especially the hexagonal motif around the keyhole. There is no key. Dimensions: 11" x 8" x 5.5". Accompanied by a decorative walnut Tumbridgeware jewelry box with vibrant blue silk interior. Tumbridgeware being characterized as a form of decoratively inlaid woodwork, typically in the form of boxes, that is characteristic of Tumbridge and the spa town of Royal Tumbridge Wells in Kent in the 18th and 19th centuries.
