Commemorative Prussian dresser box, 1880s.

A Prussian dresser box. Circa 1880's. Rectangular box with intricately carved architectural decoration in commemoration of the battle of Konigsgratz March 7, 1866. Lid of box decorated with Prussian eagle, detachable finial of the Hohenzollern coat of arm, carved bows and a crown on each corner. Front panel (from left to right) crown prince Friedrich, later emperor Frederic III, King Wilhelm I, and Otto von Bismarck. Both sides depict range of weaponry and militaria. Back panel, carved in bas relief, battle scene including cavalry, cannons, and combat. Lid has two metal hinges connect to base and two interior silk ribbon supports. Cracks throughout paneling and discoloration throughout consistent with age and use. Chip to detachable finial. Left hinge is loose, but stable. Evident repair work to lid. Overall: 8" x 8" x 4 3/4". Detachable finial: 3" x 2 1/4". Shipping: This lot does not qualify for in house shipping. We will provide a list of our preferred shippers.
