Corday Decorative Porcelain Jewelry Dresser Tray 1950s

[ translate ]

Corday Decorative Porcelain Jewelry Dresser Tray. Corday hand decorated porcelain jewelry or trinket dresser tray, mid-1950s. Cordey number "8022" on bottom of the tray indicates the mold number.

The 7000s and 8000s numbers included a wide array of home decor items such as vases, centerpiece bowls, candlesticks, trinket dishes, lidded boxes, perfume bottles, and dresser trays. The basic shapes were molded, then, the flowers were hand sculpted and added. The glazes were also individually applied.

Cordey style is always recognizable: it is a Mid-Century version of European Baroque and Rococo, popular in the 1950s as "Cordey Old World Style"

Cordey China was incorporated in 1942. Bolesaw Cybis, the President of Cordey, introduced porcelain production in the Cordey New Jersey location in 1953 and led the porcelain line until his death in 1957. In April 1959, less than three years after Cybis death, Cordey and affiliated Arton Studios applied for bankruptcy, and were acquired by Norman Schiller. 1959-1968, Cordey produced only lamps. Norman Schiller sold Schiller-Cordey to Instrument Systems Corp in August 1968. In 1969, a new owner, the Instrument Systems eventually changed its name to Griffon Corporation which still exists today. This offshore company currently named Lightron has no connection to or history with Cordey.
