The Rape of Ganymede was a popular subject in art and painted by many great artists such as Michelangelo, Rembrandt and Rubens, among others. The myth tells the story of Ganymede; a beautiful Trojan prince who caught the eye of Zeus.
This drawing by Cornelis van Dalen II depicts the legendary account of an eagle (either the Aetos Dios or a manifestation of Jupiter himself) kidnapping the handsome Ganymede and taking him to Mount Olympus to serve as Jupiter's lover as well as cupbearer to the gods.
