Crusaders Gilded Bronze Very Expressive Limoges Corpus Christi (probably from the Third Crusade)

[ translate ]

A Limoges bronze Corpus Christi, crucified His head inclined slightly right in a very expressive style (typical and unique Limoges style) showing his suffering and regret, the beard and hair finely stippled . Eyes opened (presumably inlaid with stones) The body carefully modelled with precise delination of the ribs and stomach and and the perizonium which falls to Christ's knees. That is the most significant part from the Procession Cross (wooden or metal) and the places where the body of Jesus Christ (Corpus Christi) was attached to this cross was carefully sellected from the master and were exactly the same where in fact Christ was pierced on the real Cross (with a mistake made from him because Jesus was pierced with three nails, the hands are missin but the other holes should have been placed there) Cast with hollow back which was unvisable and attached to the procession cross. Probably from the time of the Third Crusade - 13th. Century AD. Both hands are missing but the expressive vision are still ''captivate'' with beauty still carrying the spirit of the Crusader times! An extremely rare and attractive example. Material: Bronze Date: 13th / Century A. D. Size: 16,4cm. Item No. C42 Purchased by the current owner in 2014 in Austria, Wien from Collector fair. Collected Since: 1980's. Previous owners history: Old Austrian Private Collection. The Seller can prove that the lot was obtained legally , provenance statement seen by Catawiki.
