[ translate ]

Greece, Cyprus, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 2300 to 2000 BCE. A fascinating and rare bulbous-bodied jug standing on four raised legs, made from a polished redware. The most striking feature of the vessel is its tall, cut away spout with highly abstract, anthropomorphic or possibly avian features molded onto the spout and body of the vessel: large eyes, a perforated nose, and a series of necklaces. The broad back of the vessel also features a series of molded serpent- and column-like features that radiate outward from the vertical loop handle that rises from the exact highest point of the vessel to the side of the spout. Size: 7.75" W x 9.25" H (19.7 cm x 23.5 cm)

It is believed that vessels like this one were made by hand by women; it is unclear if they were designed for household use or as a religious offerings.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
