François-Alphonse Debain operating from 140 rue du Temple in the 3rd district of Paris registered his mark "a rowboat with two little men" on 15 January 1847 and renewed it on 19 July 1851. The mark was struck off on 27 May 1864. His son Alphonse-Edouard Debain succeeded him using the same symbol in his partnership with Louis-Frédéric Flamant, working as Debain & Flamant. Alphonse-Edouard Debain’s son, Alphonse Debain, became the successor to silversmith Philippe Berthier in 1883 and used Berthier’s symbol "a woodcock" to adapt his own mark to "AD and a woodcock". Alphonse Debain relocated his activities to 79 rue du Temple and Louis-Frédéric Flamant continued the business at 140 rue du Temple.

This is an extremely high quality set in a very classic pattern and in excellent condition with rare Mother-of-Pearl handled knives. The silver pieces are even more stunning than can be reflected by the photographs. The set is offered at an extraordinarily low price and is extremely good value for money. Each silver piece contains the French governments Head of the Minerva-1 Hallmark, signifying a minimum of 950 sterling along with Alphonse Debain's manufacturer's hallmark.
