DIAMOND AND RUBY BROOCH, CIRCA 1893

DIAMOND AND RUBY BROOCH, CIRCA 1893
Designed as an elliptical plaque, centring a star-set old mine-cut diamond weighing approximately 0.28 carats, flanked by a similarly set round native-cut rubies together weighing approximately 0.24 carats, upon a decorative applied surround of foliate motif, mounted in 15ct gold, length 50mm, width 14mm, total gross weight approximately 5 grams, British assay marks for Birmingham, 1893, maker's marks.

Condition: Condition Report:

In our opinion, the diamond is probably of H colour and Pique 1 clarity as gauged and graded within the limitations of the cutting style and the mounting. Some abrasions and chips to the girdle and culet. The rubies are well matched for colour, pinkish red of medium saturation, typical inclusions and some abrasions upon close inspection. Light abrasions and some scratches to the metal consistent with age and moderate wear. While all stones are secure in their setting, there is evidence of wear resulting in the loss of one claw. The brooch pin is in good working order.

Overall condition of the brooch is good.
