DIDEROT, (DENIS), - D'ALEMBERT, (JEAN). Encyclopédie, ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers. Par une sociètè de gens de lettres. Mis en ordre & publié par m. Diderot, & quant à la partie mathématique, par m. d'Alembert. Exact version conforms to pellet cell, in-room. I-XXXVI + Court of Appeal I-III. Berne - Lausanne (les Societés Typographiques) 1778-81.

Small 4to (210x170 mm. binding). 430 partly folding or double-page engraved maps and plates (of 443? , probably lacking 13 plates, 1 plate loose and damaged in the margins, mainly clean, some slight foxing), 17 folding printed tables (of 18?). Lacking the 2 engraved frontispiece portraits. Text with some spotting and browning, vol. 28 partly heavily browned.
Contemporary brown half leather, gilt spines in six compartments, speckled edges. Some minor foxing (partly worn and with damages, about 10 volumes with harder damages to spines).
With the signature of C [arl] Rinman in vol. Je samen med en notek dat het Encyclopedia wordt in 1800 voor 60. Riksdaler. He was the son of the famous Swedish chemist and mineralogist Sven Rinman. Also with later notes dated 1891 by Elisabeth Bergenström.
