[ translate ]

Property from a Private Connecticut Collection

DUTCH SCHOOL, 18TH CENTURY
A WINTER LANDSCAPE WITH FIGURES

oil on panel
panel: 8⅛ by 11¼ in.; 20.6 by 28.6 cm.
framed: 12½ by 15½ in.; 31.6 by 39.4 cm.

Condition Report:
The panel is stable, beveled on 4 edges, and has a very slight bow that is almost unnoticeable. The paint layer is stable and the image reads well beneath a clear varnish. There is one thin crack in the paint layer in the lower right corner that is not very distracting. Inspection under UV reveals some scattered areas of strengthening in the sky and some spots to address the area around the aforementioned crack. There are also scattered small spots of retouching, for example, above the boat at left, in the architecture and figure at center, in the snow covered roof of house at right, and in the landscape to left at lower edge. The painting can certainly hang in its present condition. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame.

Provenance:
With Swan Fine Art, London;

Where acquired by the present collector in 2001.
