Large helmet mask (crest mask) , covered with antelope skin, with a punchy designed head. The teeth are made of wood and stained. Variations of this extraordinary type of mask is also found in other tribes on the Cross River estuary. Sections of the horn-like, stylised female hairstyle are individually carved and inserted into the mask. The mask was attached to the basket-weave cap worn on the head; it was worn during the initiation ceremony. Private collection of Haller (Germany) .
