De Gouverneur van Curaçao en onderhoorigheden - Wisselbrief / Slavenbrief Curaçao - 1863

Wonderful promissory note (slave letter) , numbered 244, Curacao, ‘den 25 Augustus 1863’, issued and signed by the Governor of Curacao and territories as compensation for slave owners for the abolition of slavery in 1863. This promissory note was signed by him and the amount is 1,400 guilders. The amount was paid out on 19 November 1863. With many notes, several names and stamps, very interesting historical document. Several interesting names, including H. H. L. Joncheere de Quartel and E. H. van Cranenburgh. Though besides the fact that ‘zegelregt’ of 75 cents was paid, the costs were 1,035 guilders. Condition: The document is in good condition and rare. It has some minor folds, a frayed edge and a few pinpricks, normal for these items. Of course with signs of age.
