De gouveneur der kolonie Suriname - Wisselbrief / Slavenbrief Suriname - 1863

Wonderful promissory note (slave letter) , numbered 456, ‘Suriname den 29 July 1863’, issued and signed by the Governor of the Suriname Colony as a compensation to slave owners for the abolition of slavery in 1863. What is striking about this promissory note is that has a smaller format than normal promissory notes. It is signed by R. F. van Lansberge and the amount is 1000 guilders. It was already paid out on 5 October 1863. Via Paramaribo, Breda and Oosterhout and with various signatures. On the verso also payment of 50 cents ‘zegelregt’ at a cost of ‘f. . 69’. Rare. With a wonderful depiction of a tall ship and many remarks, vignette on the rear, a dry stamp ‘Suriname’ and other stamps, an interesting historical piece. Condition: The document is in exceptionally good condition, with just a few folds. Without pinpricks as usual. Of course with signs of age. Photos are part of the description.
