Most likely an Italian piece although unmarked. Appears to have a mix of natural rubies and synthetic rubies as a few display curved striae and gas bubble inclusions. The head of the figure is not ebony, as is traditional for blackamoor brooches, but is more likely a type of dense opaque resin as it displays a porous surface and granular fracture. The chest and turban of the figure appears to be silver with gold-plated accents. The reverse is hand-engraved brass with a 10k double-pinstem and open c-clasp. A fabulous piece, the look is decorative and ornamental!
