LOT 342

Dieter Roth, 6 Piccadillies

[ translate ]

London and New York, Petersburg Press, 1970. Series of six double-sided screenprints in colours on woodpulp board, laminated on both sides with white chromolux card. Each screenprint is 50 x 70 cm. Made in an edition of 150, this is no. 48/150. Signed, dated and numbered on all prints. The prints display various conditions, see pictures. Some are clean, most have some soiling around the edges and bulging of the woodpulp corners, one has major fingerprint marks (probably due to the front picture which has a black charcoal like layer), some show minor scratching.
Added to the lot are two original cardboard slipcases 61.5 x 78 x 9 cm with printed colour image on the front. This includes the original cardboard slipcase which is in very bad state. The screenprints with their original foam protective sheets are placed in another original case of better quality.
Six Piccadillies was a ground-breaking portfolio made in 1968-70. The initial image of Piccadilly Circus came from a postcard owned by the artist Rita Donagh. For each of the six editioned prints, the image on the card was blown up, printed and then laminated onto both sides of a board. One side was then overlaid with a variety of complex screenprinted surfaces which variously distorted, obscured and reinvented the original picture.
