Description: Celadon dish from the Royal Nanhai cargo shipwreck - Mid-15th century Thai Si-Satchanalai (Sawankhalok) from the Royal Nanhai cargo. Provenance Sten Sjöstrand Collection. A large and deep Longquan celadon dish from the Royal Nanhai cargo shipwreck. Fired in the Ban Pa Yang kilns at Sisatchanalai which was operated by Chinese celadon potters from the famous celadon kilns at Longquan in China. Entrepreneur Sten Sjöstrand left Sweden in the 1970s for Asia. Through his interest in diving and history, he came to be fascinated by the idea that one day discovering a pristine wreck. With hard work and with help of sonar technology, he found the remains of as many as four wrecks, named Royal Nanhai, Nanyang, Xuande and Longquan. All were loaded with stoneware and porcelain, manufactured between 1440 and 1470, from Thailand, China and Vietnam. Measure 28,5 cm in diameter and 8,5 cm high. Good condition with glaze crazing and one some minor chip. Glaze defects from burning process. Please see pictures for more details. .
