The author Rabbi Yehosef Schwartz [1804-1865] studied in Würzburg and under Rabbi Nathan Adler. In 1833, he ascended to Jerusalem. Aside from his being a Torah scholar, he studied in university and was a researcher of the Land of Israel and a geographer. He published a map of the Land in Hebrew and in German, as well as a table of the times of sunrise and sunset, and other works.
