with a "Tree" base
leaded glass, patinated bronze
shade with a small early tag impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK
base impressed Tiffany Studios/NEW YORK/553
31 ¼ in. (79.4 cm) high
26 in. (66 cm) diameter of shade

Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. This elegant lamp displays beautiful proportions and silhouette, with the sloping profile of the “Tree” base mirroring the conical format of the “Dogwood” shade. The shade is executed in a highly artistic springtime palette, with cool white, cream, and pastel pink dogwood blossoms set amidst vibrant green foliage and background tiles in a variety of tones including violet, indigo and turquoise. The shade with more than 25 hairline cracks dispersed throughout, stable. The shade with very minor and light traces of surface soiling concentrated to the contours adjacent to the leadlines, consistent with age. The upper ring of the shade was replaced at some point in the history of the piece to adapt the shade for use as a table lamp rather than a chandelier. The shade rests on the base with an extremely subtle tilt, which is only visible upon very close inspection. The shade patina with some minor areas of paint enhancement. The sculptural “Tree” base is in very good condition and displays a rich brown patina. The bronze surfaces throughout with scattered minor surface scratches and abrasions, consistent with age and use. The socket arms with some occasional minor areas of patina loss, only visible upon close inspection. With a period two-way switch and switch knob. With a period finial in very good condition with scattered minor surface scratches and abrasions consistent with age and handling. While the lamp is in good functional condition at the time of the sale, Sotheby's does not guarantee electrical components and suggests having all wiring inspected by a licensed electrician. A gorgeous and refined form with superb glass selection.
