Donnino Pozzi
(1894-1946) – Painter
Life: born in Fontanellato on October 5, 1894, initially self-taught, he enrolled in 1917 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Parma, becoming a student of Daniele de Strobel. A profound connoisseur of fresco technique and master of the craft, he was called to collaborate, along with Bocchi, on the frescoes of the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua. In 1928, he went to Paris and then moved to Milan until 1940. Returning to Parma during World War II, he disappeared at the age of 52, leaving behind a widespread, albeit discontinuous, body of work.
\r
His works: he dedicated himself with an intense lyrical vein and a dense chromatic range to landscape painting and especially to still life, a genre he favored and in which he adopted the style of French culture, from Courbet to Cézanne. Pozzi considered color as the primary element that allowed the expression of the various poetic sensations of the spirit and conceived the painting as a vibration of colors: it is as if, with brushstrokes, color, expanding, gave body to form. His paintings can be found in the Parmigian churches of San Vitale, Santa Cristina, Santa Maria Maddalena, Santa Caterina, at the Stuard Art Gallery, at the Parma Savings Bank, at the Modern Art Gallery of Milan, and at the Ricci Oddi Gallery of Piacenza.
