Dresden Porcelain White Swirl Floral Inkwell 1920s

[ translate ]

Antique Square shaped Dresden style porcelain inkwell, white swirl with colorful floral decorations and gold sprinkles, marked on the bottom "DRESDEN" and a circle mark "Made in Germany" (the mark used in the 1920s-1930s).

The inkwell is c.5.1/2" [14cm] tall including lid; it is cube shape c.3" x 3" x 3" [7.6cm]. The inkwell is brass hinged retaining original pin and mounts [some brass patina: see photos]; there is no additional porcelain insert inside inkwell. The ball-form porcelain top is also decorated, the brass bottom cover of the porcelain ball is engraved [see photo]. No chips, no hairline, no crackles, very good condition.

Design reduced to the basic forms- cubes and balls is a mark of German Constructivism of the 1910s-1920s. The combination of constructivist simplicity with Dresden-style Baroque decorations is highly unusual.
