Späterer französischer Künstlereinband aus dunkelbraunem Marokkoleder über Holzdeckeln auf 6 Bünden, dekorativer Deckel mit blindgeprägten geometrischen Elementen im vereinfachten Grolier-Stil, gepunzte Kanten, Rücken mit floralen Blindprägungen, im gleichen Stil gaufrierter Goldschnitt, blindgeprägter RTitel sowie weiße Moiré-Vorsätze.
Obwohl es bereits in den 1840er und 1850er Jahren zahlreiche Ausgaben der "Musketiere" in hohen Auflagen gab, ist diese Ausgabe sehr selten. Nach Angaben von OCLC ist weltweit nur ein Exemplar in institutionellen Beständen nachzuweisen, nämlich bei der BNF in Paris. - Der erste Teil erschien ursprünglich 1844 in Brüssel, wurde durch den zweiten Teil "Vingt Ans après" (Paris, 1847) fortgesetzt und mit der Veröffentlichung des dritten Teils mit dem Titel "Le Vicomte de Bragelonne" vervollständigt, der 1851 insgesamt zum ersten Mal in Brüssel erschien. Die Anfangsseiten der drei gedruckten Romane, hier zweispaltig, sind jeweils mit schönen Holzschnittvignetten illustriert, die wahrscheinlich aus der 1852 in Paris erschienenen illustrierten Ausgabe von Marescq für Dufour und Mulat nachgedruckt wurden. - Papier stellenweise minimal stockfleckig und mit einigen kleinen hinterlegten Stellen, S. 488 mit kleinem Einriss, sonst sehr gut erhaltener Textblock. - Prachtvoll gebundene Frühausgabe von Alexandre Dumas' berühmtester historischer Trilogie.
With 3 wood engravings by i.a. Félix-Jean Gauchard (part 2) after drawings by Georges Alexandre Fischer (parts 1 and 2) as head-pieces. - Although there were numerous editions of the "Musketeers" published in huge print runs already in the1840s and 1850s, this one is very rare. According to OCLC there is only one copy to trace in institutional holdings world-wide, at the BNF in Paris. - The 1st part was originally published in Brussels in 1844, continued by the 2nd part "Vingt Ans après" (Paris, 1847) and completed with the publication of the 3rd part titled "Le Vicomte de Bragelonne", altogether published for the 1st time in Bruxelles, 1851. The initial pages of each of the 3 novels printed, here in double columns, are illustrated with nice head-pieces executed as wood engravings, probably reprinted from the 1852 illustrated edition published in Paris by Marescq for Dufour and Mulat. - Later French artist's binding made of full grained dark brown morocco leather over wooden boards on 6 raised bands, decorative boards with blind embossed geometrical elements in simplified Grolier style, all edges and spine of binding with embossed lines and framework incorporating floral themes, text block with gilt gauffered edges in the same style, gilt title on spine as well as waxed marbled endpapers on white stock (minor rubbing at some edges and corners). - Paper in some parts minimally foxy and with some small, skilfully executed restorations, p. 488 with small tear, otherwise very well preserved text block. - Gorgeously bound early edition of Alexandre Dumas' most famous historical trilogy.
